Green Team Hard at Work

March 9th, 2009 by mrwinnerelms

I wanted to update our online community on all the hard work going on at Longfellow Elementary. We’ve been conserving energy, recycling, and thinking green. The school’s attitude toward recylcing is shifting and it’s becoming clear that we all want to do our part to be a little greener.

Moreover, we’re seeing tremendous results with our recycling efforts. When we started at the beginning of the school year our teams were collecting roughly trash cans full of used paper. Now we’re barely managing with three overflowing trash cans and an additional recycling tub. It’s a wonderful thing to have to call Paper Retriever early because we’re overflowing our Abitibi Recycling dumpster!

Thanks for the tremendous support for all that everyone is doing!

Local Environmental Specialist Talks Green with LFES Students

February 4th, 2009 by mrwinnerelms

recycle globe Alicia Moore, recycling coordinator for Howard County, is visiting Longfellow tomorrow (Thursday, February 5th) to speak with our students about recycling and what it means to go green.

This is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to her ideas for how our students can get involved with recycling in our community.

She will give two presentations in the gym. The first, for our students in grades K-2, will be from 9-10am. The second presentation, for our students in grades 3-5, will be from 10-11am.

We look forward to sharing all of the great ideas we learn with our school community!
